Michelle Balm

Dr Michelle Balm

MBChB, DTM&H, FRCPA, FRACP

Clinical Microbiologist and Infectious Diseases Physician at Aotea Pathology and Capital & Coast District Health Board.

Dr Balm has special interests in epidemiology and control of communicable diseases especially multidrug resistant organisms, and innovative diagnostic strategies including molecular diagnostics.

Dr Brett Delahunt 

ONZM, KStJ, BSc(Hons), MB, ChB, BMedSc, MD, FRSNZ, FRCPA, FFSc (RCPA) FRCPath, FNZSP, AFNZIM

Anatomical Pathologist, Professor of Pathology and Molecular Medicine, University of Otago.

Professor Delahunt has a special interest in urological pathology and holds a number of appointments on national and international bodies.  He is currently Editor-in-Chief of PATHOLOGY and is Chair of the National Cancer Registry Board.

Peter Bethwaite

Dr Peter Bethwaite

MBChB, DCH, PhD, FRCPA

Anatomic Pathologist Aotea Pathology, Consultant Pathologist with Capital & Coast Health and joint Clinical Senior Lecturer in Pathology, Wellington School of Medicine.

Dr Bethwaite has a special interest in cytology, gynaecological pathology and breast pathology. He is also an examiner in anatomic pathology for the RCPA and holds a number of positions on national advisory groups in cytology.

Dr Crooke has a special interest in diabetes, endocrinology, lipids, assessment of cardiovascular risk, electrolyte balance and the rational use of laboratory tests.

Anatomic Pathologist and Consultant Pathologist with Capital & Coast Health. Dr Hill has a special interest in lymph node pathology and haematopathology. Since 1993 he has run the slide circulation educational exercise for New Zealand under the auspices of the NZ Society of Pathology.

Ken Romeril

Clinical Haematologist Aotea Pathology, Clinical Director of Haematology Laboratory Capital & Coast Health and Consultant Clinical Haematologist for Capital & Coast and Hutt Valley DHBs. Dr Romeril is referee for the RCPA Morphology Sub-Committee and Chairman of the Training Committee for Haematologists.

His special interests include haemachromotosis, immuno-deficiency disorders, myeloma and stem cell transplantation for lymphoproliferative disorders.

Anatomic Pathologist; CEO of Aotea Pathology and Consultant Anatomic Pathologist with Hutt Valley Health. Dr Wood has served on the executive of the New Zealand Medical Association, Council of Medical Colleges and Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia. She has served on a number of national committees on matters of pathology practice.

Dr Wood has a special interest in dermatopathology and cytology.

Andrew Tie

Dr Andrew Tie

Anatomic Pathologist. Dr Tie was previously Vice President (New Zealand Committee) RCPA and is currently Chair of Specialist Council (NZMA). He has served on a range of College and other committees including the Medical Laboratory Science Board and the Medical Advisory Committee of IANZ.

Dr Tie has a special interest in lung pathology and cytopathology.

Karen Wood

Chief Executive Officer

As CEO, Dr Wood provides the overall direction for all clinical and business functions.

Dr Wood meets with PHO and DHB leaders, as well as referring clinicians, to ensure we have good communication, excellent working relationships and that we are meeting the practice needs of clinicians through-out the region.

  

Vicki McKnight 

General Manager, Patient Services

Vicki and her team are responsible for delivering a high quality suite of corporate services such as Phlebotomy and Courier Services, Quality and Safety, Information Services, Facilities, Customer Service and Business Development.

Vicki's aim is to instigate a "service" culture in the Corporate Services team, notably moving to a strongly business-aligned, internal support function, and ensuring that "best practices" are captured and adopted. 

Vicki has held a variety of management roles in pathology services, and has both science and business qualifications.    

   
Anita Worrall

Anita Worrall

General Manager, Laboratory Services

Anita co-ordinates activities across all technical departments, working with the heads of departments to ensure we have efficient and effective operating systems and high quality testing processes.

Anita has a masters degree in Medical Laboratory Science and more than 20 years experience in pathology services in New Zealand and overseas. Anita has recently completed post-graduate studies in business administration at Victoria University, Wellington.
